Birkenstocks are Back

There is something endearing about a brand that has been around for over two centuries, and has seldom changed their classic trademark style and fit over time. Birkenstocks have been around since their emergence in 1776 in Germany, but are most famously known for their popularity in America during the 60's and 70's. The free-spirited hippies of this time period identified with the "back-to-nature" feel that comes along with owning a pair of birkenstocks. They became more than just a pair of sandals, they were a way of life-some even believed they were the catalyst of a movement.
After some time on the backburner during the 80's, Birkenstock popularity experienced a resurgence during the grungy 90's. Again, people gravitated towards the laid-back easiness that the sandals emulated. The 90's were a period of an undone and effortless style, which made people yearn for the spirit of the care-free days of Woodstock.
A few months ago, my mind became fixated on owning a pair of my own Arizona style Birkenstocks. Maybe a lifetime of watching my dad shamelessly rock socks and Birks finally took its toll on me, who knows. I finally got my own pair of purple metallic leather Arizonas for Christmas, and my wardrobe was forever changed. They automatically add an effortlessly chic touch to any outfit, while carrying a visual history along with every wear that indefinitely attracts compliments. Not to mention they are by far the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, because after just a few wears they become customly molded to the owner's feet.
Since I've been converted into your typical granola-crunching Birkenstock lover, I have seen Birkenstocks popping up once again into the world of fashion. Over the past couple years, celebrities such as the Olsen twins and Anne Hathaway have nailed the casual celebrity look while rocking various styles. With summer just around the corner, stores such as Urban Outfitters have suddenly stocked up on a wide selection of Birkenstocks. Birkenstock truly has something for everyone, as they go beyond their classic two-strap Arizona style, and now make various sandals that some may find more flattering. Owning your own pair is not only a fresh update to any closet, but also gives the wearer a sense of history and community that is impossible to find with any other shoe brand.

maxi-mum effortlessness

An episode a couple weeks ago of The Rachel Zoe Project got me thinking about the idea of a maxi dress. In the episode, Rachel is shown appearing extremely distraught about the fact that the maxi dresses from her latest collection were not being picked up by buyers. Even the maxi dresses that did make it to the stores definitely were not her best-sellers.
Maxi dresses are a statement a lot of girls tend to shy away from, with the fear of appearing too dressed up or impractical. Rachel Zoe argues that maxis are infact more practical than short skirts and dresses, because they have the feeling and coverage as if the wearer had on pants. And I couldn't agree with her more.
Maxi dresses are by far the easiest way to appear chic and confident, while still remaining effortless and comfortable. The dresses above are maxis currently available at Urban Outfitters and Free People, and the last two are runway looks from Rachel Zoe's spring 2013 collection. All of these images show that there is a maxi dress for every girl out there: from the boho/hippie girl to the rock n roll chick, or from the professional work woman to the girl who favors minimalism. And with summer just around the corner, how could you not be dying to get your hands on one of these?

ankle booties for spring

Believe it or not, spring is mearly a month a way! It will be time to trade your boots in return for sandals before you know it; but-for all of my fellow bootlovers- there is luckily a very happy medium. Ankle boots are a trend that have appeared to stand the test of time once again this season, and are being made in more unique styles than ever before, which makes them versatile for almost any girl's style! As seen above, ankle booties range from high to low, and can be found in any color or print imaginable. Some of them have a slightly more equestrian vibe, while others seem very Olsen twin-esqe. The reason why I love ankle booties is because you can wear them with nearly any kind of look, and they seem to compliment most outfits while giving them a sort of rock n roll edge. All of the boots above can be found at Urban Outfitters, but I suggest searching all of your favorite stores for them right now because they are bound to sell their own versions!

Summer's coming...bring on the bandeaus!

Urban Outfitters

Victoria's Secret

Topshop, Forever 21, Target

Finally, finally, the summer months are approaching and stores have begun getting in their big selection of swimsuits! I've found that right about now is the best time to stock up on new swimwear, because by June all of the reject swimsuits will be left behind from when all the smart girls snatched up the cute ones in the spring! So get your butt over to places like Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Victoria's Secret, H&M, and (surprisingly!) Target for some of the cheapest but cutest swimsuits!

In years past I have always rejected the idea of bandeau swimsuits. I've formerly based my opinion by looking at dreadful pictures of celebrities at the beach with their bandeau top practically down to their belly button. I've always thought these bathingsuits were so unflattering, that is, until I saw more and more girls wearing them this year!

It seems the "bandeau" style has really become the next big thing in the swimsuit department! They're so fun and cute, and really show off your neckline and collarbone. I've come to the realization that they're actually quite flattering- you just have to make sure the top isn't too big or too small! I love when girls wear them under loose tank tops on summer days to the beach, because they look so adorable! I'd love to know what you guys think of bandeau swimsuits! Leave comments below!:)

'Cause we make the hipsters fall in love, when we got our hot pants on and up.

<img class="inlinsrc=" />

FINALLY the sun is out, the weather is heating up, and summer is just around the corner, which can only mean one thing: you can finally start breaking out your summer essentials and wearing swimsuits, shorts, and crop tops again!! YAYY!
Lately, I have grown more and more obsessed with short high-waisted shorts. All the little hipsters run around and party in them on tumblr, and it has inspired me to get myself a couple pairs. I have found that most of the cutest high-waisted shorts are located at Urban Outfitters(see above). Cheaper, bigger chains such as Forever 21 and H&M haven't quite caught on to the trend yet, making cool vintage stores and UO pretty much the only places you can find them. I actually see this as a really good thing because it would be a shame for everyone and their mother to start looking like hipster wannabes...
Anyway, go to urbanoutfitters.com for the most ADORABLE shorts you've ever seen. Lillian got me the first ripped up pair above for my birthday after they were on backorder for seriously like three months. They're vintage cut-off 501's...I mean really, how sick is that??? I also recently got the navy and red pair above too, and I think I've fallen in love. UO seems to be getting in newer, cuter shorts every couple of weeks so be sure to snag them up before summer really hits and they're all sold out!

Urban Outfitters is getting graphic! (t-shirts, that is..)

There's nothing that is as quite as effortless and modern as an amazing graphic tee. I'll admit it: t-shirts aren't (and frankly never have been) my kind of thing. A lot of time they come across too casual or plain for my taste... But, with every generalization, there are always exceptions:).

And my "exceptions" may just be the incredible bunch of fun, artsy, and modern tee shirts that they're selling at Urban Outfitters at the moment. Urban Outfitters has such cute clothes that they can even make me-yes, me- fall in love with the idea of a t-shirt.

T-shirts like the ones above look great with jeans, shorts, skirts, and even leggings if the shirt is long enough. T-shirts are so comfy and cute, and make you look adorable without having to try. Can I say, effortless at its finest?

The genius that creates outside-of-the-box standout-yet-still-wearable-clothing, Marc Jacobs, even said, “I like the sort of 'nothingness' of the jeans and the T-shirt. I feel that's about as close as I can get to the future because it seems like something so old that will always be, so I feel it's a safe bet for the future.” T-shirts are modern, and always will be. Good quality Urban Outfitters ones will last you a while, and they run at about only $25-40!!! Urban Outfitters+70's= Perfection.

So Audrey and I are both kindasuperobsessed with the lovely little store called Urban Outfitters, if you haven't noticed.. :) Anyway, I was browsing along their website today, like usual, and I noticed they have a whole section of the 70's trend for spring. This time Urban Outfitters really killed me! Two of my favorite things working together?! I'm already planning outfits- that blue shirtdress with the yellow bag and brown and yellow heels, or the crocheted bikini, red-orange hat, John Lennon sunnies, and a chambray shirt tied at the waist..Oh yes, I will be high-tailing it over to my nearest store ASAP. xx, Lillian

(p.s. I'm especially obsessed with that crocheted and feather bikini! Ooh, and that turquoise cuff..)
