A fascination with Terry Richardson

Terry Richardson is an American photographer that is most well known for his provocative and sexual photographs of models, celebrities, fashion, and even himself. He is famous for his risk-taking advertisements, editorial photographs, and fashion photographs. There's something so eye-catching and different about his work that sets him apart from other photographers of today's time. The images that he produces are so raw, and he has this unexplainable ability to bring out a side that is so weird and outrageous in his subjects. I love that whenever I see one of his pictures, I instantly know "Oh, that's a Terry."

He recently collaborated with ultimate artist herself, Lady Gaga. You know that when you pair up two creative geniuses like them, you are bound for spectacular perfection. The last two pictures above are from their book, Lady Gaga X Terry Richardson, and as you can see, Terry catches this rare "behind-the-scenes" side of Gaga that the public hasn't seen before. Shock-value is something that is experimented with by both of them, and it is clearly present in the work they have done together. I need to get over to Barnes & Noble soon to get this!!

Paris Fashion Week Day 1 Highlights! (Rochas, Gareth Pugh, & Mugler)

Today kicked off day one of Paris Fashion Week: S/S 2012 RTW! Here are some highlights of a few of my favorite designers that showed today:

Marco Zanini gave a nod to the 50's as he sent everything from long sequined party frocks to pin-up leotards and high-waisted shorts for Rochas. Zanini played with beautiful fabrics, prints, and especially eye-catching accessories. He described his collection as "...a journey through the vortex of cinema," which is exactly what it was.

Gareth Pugh is the type of designer that sends pure art down the runway every single season; and this season was no exception. From literal cages formed around the models' bodies, to sky high heels and head to toe (literally) black leather outfits, Gareth Pugh S/S 2012 was all about sci-fy fantasy and mixing dark with light. I couldn't help but to be reminded of McQueen with some of the pieces and conceptual art that Pugh showed, but that aside, Gareth Pugh is such an innovative, genius designer that has so much to offer to the world of fashion.

The relatively new brand "Mugler" by Nicola Formichetti's show began with a short clip of one of his biggest fans, Lady Gaga. Although she did not make an appearance on the catwalk as she did last season, it was still an exciting way to kick off the show. Nicola Formichetti played with so much draping, layering, and mixing of cutting-edge shapes and silhouettes. The color palette remained mostly neutral, but as each look walked out, it was clear how much artistic and innovative thinking went into every single piece. This left me eager for what's in store for the future of this new designer.

Comment and tell me what you thought about today's shows!!

xoxo, Audrey

Still in love with Gaga, baby? Of course:)

The past month has literally been an explosion of exciting events for all little monsters around the world as we "patiently" await the release of Lady Gaga's new album, Born This Way, coming out this Monday!!! It all started with the release of Gaga's second single from BTW, Judas. Judas is about Gaga's continuous habit of falling in love with men who lie and deceive her, hence the metaphor "Judas". The video for Judas(above) clearly illustrates this as Gaga is being pulled between Jesus and Judas, while riding motorcycles and chilling with all of the other disciples. In a way it's actually quite ironically humorous, while still doing a phenomenal job of playing with concepts like good vs. evil and falling in love with a "Judas". Not to mention the mind-blowing outfits, makeup, and -um, hello- nails that Gaga was wearing! One of my favorite look was in the beginning when she's on Jesus's motorcycle and all of the disciples have leather jackets with their names written on the back. Pure genius. The video is surprisingly not very controversial, Gaga herself even said, "The most controversial thing about the Judas video is that I'm wearing Chanel and Christian Lacroix in the same scene." Gotta love her:)

Since the Judas video, Gaga has also released two more promo singles titled "Edge of Glory" and "Hair" which are both inspiring self-love and liberating anthems. You can not even comprehend the level of excitement I have for the release of Born This Way on Monday. Like I don't know, I could very well die from excitement before then, but I guess we'll just have to wait to find out. :) So let me know what you think of the Judas video, the new songs, and (if you've heard it) the album. Paws up!

The magnificent 2011 Grammys!!!

Ah, the Grammys! Hundreds upon hundreds of people gathered last night to celebrate the best and most exciting of award ceremonies. All I can say is wow! I am completely blown away by this years Grammys. From Gaga (in an egg!!!!) to Adam Lambert and, ok fine, Justin Bieber :), the fabulously dressed celebrities flooded the red carpet. Ryan Seacrest, Giulana Rancic, and Kelly Osbourne talked fashion and also looked stunning! Lady Gaga really knows how to make an entrance! The lovely Miss Gaga hit the red carpet in an egg-like vessel carried by models. It was said she was "incubating" for three hours! She has truly topped herself. Gaga later performed her amazing new single "Born This Way" while wearing a sleek technicolor ponytail (gorgeous) and nude latex ensemble. It was an incredible night to celebrate the music industry and all the talented people within it. Some of my favorite looks:

BABY, I WAS BORN THIS WAY!!

This morning at 6am Lady Gaga's highly anticipated new single, Born This Way, was finally released!!! You can now buy it on itunes, and it will be playing at the top of every hour on almost every pop radio station in the country! I woke up at 5am this morning to mentally prepare myself for the new work Gaga said took her two years to create. I must say, I am BLOWN AWAY!! I know I'm a die-hard little monster so my opinion may be biased, but I can assure you this a damn good dance/pop anthem. The words are SO inspiring and the beats just make you want to dance! Gaga really hit it out of the park with this one. It's by far my favorite Gaga song, and that says a lot right there! Listen to it here: http://www.ladygaga.com/bornthisway/index.htm and make sure you BUY it on itunes rather than downloading it illegally! I'm off to school now!

Lady Gaga's fragrance rumor confirmed!

Rumors have been flying around for a couple of months that Miss Gaga will be releasing her very first fragrance in the spring of 2011. Today, Bernd Beetz of Copy Inc. said a statement confirming the fragrance deal:

“Lady Gaga’s universal appeal makes her a subject of fascination. A force like no other, Lady Gaga is explosive, provocative and sexy, three traits which pave the way for an extraordinary fragrance experience for consumers. Coty is recognized as a world leader in celebrity fragrance. Globally, Coty‘s leadership in celebrity fragrance is undisputed. We welcome Lady Gaga to the Coty family and look forward to breaking boundaries that will allow people to experience beauty in a different and unique way.”

I think it's pretty plain to see that Gaga's fragrance won't be like some of the other celebrity frangrances in which they just paste their name on some awful concoction that they have close to nothing to do with. You know that the Haus and Gaga will be involved with it every step of the way! I can't wait to get my little monster paws on it in the spring! Thoughts??

Gaga's VMA fashion: Alexander McQueen, Armani..and erm, meat?

Last Sunday, Gaga somehow managed to top last year's extravagant VMA attire with three fantastically outrageous looks.  The fashion icon started off the night in a breathtaking Alexander McQueen number, followed a black Armani ensemble as she went onstage to accept her second win of the night. Although both of these looks were very loud and statement-making (as Gaga's wardrobe always is) her third look of the night was what got the most attention: the meat dress by Franc Fernandez. She wore it onstage as she accepted her biggest win of the night for "Video of the Year". As she promised her fans, she took this time to release her new album title "Born This Way" and sing a couple lines from the future hit song. Although there was some humor behind this (because while she was doing this, Cher was holding her meat purse), the moment was a very special moment for Gaga and her career. And of course, Gaga's outfit wouldn't be truly "GAGA" unless it has some genius conceptual inspiration behind it. She later stated that the purpose of the meat dress was to imply that "If we don't fight for our rights..soon we will have as much rights as the meat on our bones." This goes along with the speech she gave about repealing "Don't Ask Don't Tell" today in Maine: http://gagadaily.com/2010/09/lady-gaga-speaks-at-dont-ask-dont-tell-rally/

My Inspiration Board as of 8/13/10

One of the ways I express my creative energy and get inspired is by creating an inspiration board. It's really just a slab of cardboard that I hung up in my room and pin pictures/quotes/etc to, but I have a fabulous time doing it! I switch it up whenever I get bored with the stuff I have on it, and I always try to reflect my current mood/ feelings/ inspiration/ dreams and likes through it. I thought that I would share my current board with you so that you can take inspiration from it; or maybe even get inspired to create one of your own. :)

My inspiration board:)

-And now for a closer look at some of the above-

The girl in the polka dot shirt is a cutout from some magazine..I don't quite remember which though. Also, you can see some quotes and Andy Warhol-related things peeking in from the edges. And you know I love Warhol:) http://dressingupindaisies.onsugar.com/Andy-Warhol-Famous-Little-Longer-...

Here we have part of a really cool photograph from a MAC ad, and some very amazing Proenza Schouler looks.

I've been really eyeing up the denim vests lately, so I put a picture of Gaga looking fabulous in one on my board. Also ( to complete the picture of Gaga) I posted the lyrics to "Dance in the Dark"!

Hope you enjoyed!

GaGa on the cover of the September issue of Vanity Fair

This month Vanity Fair issues with Lady Gaga and her long lavender grey hair on the cover hit newsstands all around the country. As you may have picked up on, I'm a HUGE fan and supporter of Miss Gaga, so obviously I ran out and got my little monster paws on a copy as soon as I could! I read through the article and looked through the pictures, and was once again reminded why this revolutionary superstar seems to be taking over the world.

The photos were beautiful and the fashion was beautifully insane. In some photos she wore pieces made by Alexander McQueen and Armani, and in other photos she wore nothing but a huge diamond chocker. The pictures were shot by her dear friend and photographer Nick Knight. And obviously, the extravagant and intricate fashion went along perfectly with her deep, soulful, and extravagant personality and ideas.

The article was amazing. It talked about everything from Gaga's New York club-kid days, to the recent rumor of her testing positive for lupus. I LOVE reading Gaga interviews because I think the way she thinks and the ideas that she has are sooo interesting. She's completely her own person, and is unlike anyone that this world has ever seen before. Everything she does is for her fans, proudly called her "little monsters". She doesn't give a care about the money or the fame; all she wants is to make her fans not feel like freaks and not have to go through the torment that she went through for being different. She believes so strongly in the power of love and in gay rights. Gaga has a lot of support coming from the gay community, and she mirrors that love for them right back just as equally (and maybe even more) than they love her. She said, "My relationships with my gay friends share a purity and love that's so simple because we don't want anything except friendship."

Another thing that I love that she talked about in the interview was her infamous Birkin bag. I wrote about it a few moths ago, and I'll post the link at the bottom of this page. She commented, "So here is the irony: the most classic and iconic bag on the planet, but my fans don't relate to it because it represents something they don't have. So how do I create and make it into something that they will love and adore, and turn it into a performance-art piece in itself? My fans are more iconic than this purse. And I love fashion, but I don't love it more than my fans. And that's what this bag is all about."

Behind every single outfit, song, or performance, there is a concept behind it. And that's one of the many reasons why I love gaga. Not only is she making it okay, and even cool, to dress different and a little wacky. Not only is she making is cool for girls to be strong and independent and chase after their dreams. And not only is she making it cool for people to stop all forms of hate and prejudice against people who may be different than themselves, but she does it all for a reason, for her fans, and because that's what she was put on this earth to to. To be a superstar, changing the world one sequin at a time.

Birkin Bag Post: http://dressingupindaisies.onsugar.com/GagaBirkinSharpieGenius-8187440

About me

I started Dressing Up In Daisies about two years ago for the purpose of unloading all my thoughts, ideas, and obsessions on to internet, rather than keeping them all bottled up in my head. In my first post on DUID ever, my (at the time) thirteen year old self said, “Fashion is about taking risks, and dressing up for yourself, and no one else. Ever since I was two years old, my favorite game to play has been dress up...and it still is. The amazing thing about this game is that you get to play it every single morning, so why not have some fun with it? Wear some massive heels, opt for the leopard coat, throw some daisies in your hair. Whatever your mood is that day.” Ever since I can remember I’ve been fascinated by and obsessed with the world of fashion and all things artistic. I’m not really at all like most kids my age. I spend my days blogging, painting, sketching, taking pictures with old film cameras, and dreaming about my future as a fashion icon strutting around New York City.

Here’s a little bit about me(my description on tumblr): Audrey. 15 years old. Pisces. From San Diegoo. Hippie at heart. Wasting half my time blogging, and the other half at school. Aspiring fashion designer. Full time freak. Soon to be starving artist. ♥ I love: 500 days of summer, fashion, new york city, red nails, good vibes, andy warhol, incense, chanel, men's sweaters, hippies, painting, fur coats, marc jacobs daisy perfume, urban outfitters, the 70's, ziggy stardust, people who dance to the beat of their own drum, rock n' roll music, my canon rebel and my diana f+, steven tyler's sexy ass, the summer of 1969, sublime, my two best friends, woodstock documentaries, lady gaga, saturday mornings, black and white pictures, cold winter days, bike rides in the summertime, combat boots, and tumblr ♥ Dreams: ride a unicorn, go to Parsons for college, create the biggest fashion house in the world, ride a segway, see the aurora borealis, float through space listening to david bowie records, always remain true to myself, live in a shitty apartment and eat top ramen in New York with my best friend Lillian when we turn 18, and not fail my next history test...

I use my blog to connect me to the world of fashion that I know I’ll be a part of one day. And the best part about this is that you guys can be a part of my journey as I chase my dreams of becoming a part of this industry that I feel so passionately about. Feel free to give me feedback in the comment section, hit me up on tumblr, or inbox me because I love hearing from you guys!! xoxo, Audrey
