Between her adorable family, her successful clothing and jewelry lines, the upcoming release of a collection at Macy's, and her own aol series "Candidly Nicole," Nicole Richie's "Simple Life" days appear to be long gone. She took the fashion world by storm when she launched her House of Harlow 1960 and Winter Kate lines back in 2009, and has managed to remain in the spotlight while constantly appearing on "Best Dressed" lists since then. Nicole's style seems to be forever evolving, and she claims to have, "...always loved the possibility of being able to transform yourself through the way of dress.” One day she'll look like a grunge goddess, and the next she'll rock one of her signature boho looks.
One of her most recent breath-taking style moments was at the Met Gala 2013 (first picture displayed). She gave her floral Topshop dress a punk rock twist with a grey/blue 'do and bold purple lips. Earlier this year, she cut some chic bangs into her effortless bob, which made her hair basically to die for. Nicole is extremely aware of every element that makes up her look, and always has her hair, makeup, and accessories down to a T.
The "Candidly Nicole" aol series shows Nicole in a light that is an entire 180 from her "Simple Life" days, but reveals that she is just as much of a silly and adventurous girl like she used to be. She is truly a fashion chameleon and does not feel the need to tie herself into one style category, which allows her to freely express who she is through her look. I mean, the girl can pull of a harem pant for Christ's sake...
18 year-old Sky Ferreira is an underground LA singer and IMG model who has recently taken the fashion world by storm. I fell in love with her when she first appeared in H&M's "fashion against aids" campaign, and then shortly after, hundreds of pictures of her began flooding my tumblr dashboard. It was then that I realized, I'm not the only one obsessed with this girl.
Her style is complete and total perfection. From her thrown on oversized men's button-ups to her ripped up fishnets and beat up boots, Sky embodies that entire "cool girl" vibe. There's literally nothing better to me than a girl who looks like she just rolled out of bed and couldn't give two shits if her hair is in the right place or her outfits matches itself. It's the idea of being perfectly imperfect that she does so well. Sky's look is so rock n' roll and like none I have ever seen before. She has become a main style inspiration of mine, and I can't wait to see all the future looks she is bound to rock.
I'm not gonna lie- I've never been the biggest Miley fan. I'm in the generation that was just a few years too old to get hooked into the whole "Hannah Montanna" craze, so I spent most of my younger childhood thinking I was way too cool for Miley Cyrus.
That is, until she grew up...and, as did I.
Now I consider her one of the best (if not, the best) dressed younger celebrities of today. I seriously can't even express how obsessed with her style I am. She is the perfect mixture off beat-up rock n' roll ruggedness and effortless polish. There's nothing that I love more than a girl who looks like she just rolled out of bed, and Miley captures this sort of look so well. I love how she plays with texture and layering, but tends to keep the color scheme of her outfits on the neutral side. Miley has that priceless "cool girl" factor, which shows she isn't afraid to take risks and wear whatever the hell she wants whenever the hell she wants. Another thing I love about her is that she always looks breath-taking on the red carpet. This girl cleans up nicely from her signature leather and ripped denim. Her style is definitely one that I'm always keeping my eye on, and take inspiration from constantly.
At 2:00 a.m. Friday morning my alarm clock went off and I practically leaped out of bed. Sure, I had school in six hours..and sure, I probably should have been fast asleep and getting rest for the day ahead, but last Friday morning wasn't just any ordinary Friday morning. The marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton would be taking place in approximately one hour, and I wouldn't miss that for anything.
I would have to say one of the most exciting things for me about the wedding was seeing what everyone was wearing! From the Beckhams, to Elton John, to Fergie, everyone was looking their best(and completely ridiculous!)! But the most anticipated and awaited outfit of the day was of course, the bride herself: Kate Middleton. Some thought she'd be wearing Vivienne Westwood, some expected she'd keep the tradition going and wear a dress designed by Elizabeth and David Emanuel(as did Diana), some thought she would be supporting a new, young designer...But from the first second she stepped out of the Rolls-Royce, the world was thrilled to see none other than a signature McQueen dress. The deep neckline, the lace sleeves, the classic simplicity mixed with extravagance, instantly gave it away that the dress of the decade was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen!
Kate's entire head to toe look was completely breathtaking. I loved how she was wearing Queen Elizabeth's tiara and that gorgeous transparent veil. The whole crowd couldn't take their eyes off of her! The McQueen number was just absolute perfection as it was still classic, but also modern and fashionable. Very Kate Middleton. It definitely lived up to the world's expectation, and can certainly be crowned the dress of the decade.
Ah, the Grammys! Hundreds upon hundreds of people gathered last night to celebrate the best and most exciting of award ceremonies. All I can say is wow! I am completely blown away by this years Grammys. From Gaga (in an egg!!!!) to Adam Lambert and, ok fine, Justin Bieber :), the fabulously dressed celebrities flooded the red carpet. Ryan Seacrest, Giulana Rancic, and Kelly Osbourne talked fashion and also looked stunning! Lady Gaga really knows how to make an entrance! The lovely Miss Gaga hit the red carpet in an egg-like vessel carried by models. It was said she was "incubating" for three hours! She has truly topped herself. Gaga later performed her amazing new single "Born This Way" while wearing a sleek technicolor ponytail (gorgeous) and nude latex ensemble. It was an incredible night to celebrate the music industry and all the talented people within it. Some of my favorite looks:
Year after year, decade after decade, hundreds of "it girls" and "style icons" have filed in and out of magazines, media, movies, and red carpets. Many of these girls own the look that everyone of their time tried to recreate for themselves, but times change and trends fade, and with that, so do “It girls”. But sometimes, certain people can surpass the chains of time and trends and stay a style icon for decades. No matter where the fashion world goes, girls like this will ALWAYS be in style and ALWAYS be looked to for inspiration.
When I think of style icons, the first person that always comes to my mind is Audrey Hepburn. She was such an inspiring woman that my parents even named me after her! There was something so graceful and elegant about Audrey and the way she presented herself. She was pure class, and classy will NEVER go out of style. Classy is timeless.
I find it so easy to modernize the Hepburn look and add little touches of her charm to your day to day look. Big, huge sunnies one day, and ballet flats the next. Straight cigarette pants for a day on the town, and an LBD for the night. Audrey even said herself, “My look is attainable. Woman can look like Audrey Hepburn by buying the large sunglasses and the little sleeveless dresses.”
Audrey Hepburn is the girl that introduced the LBD to the mainstream. She was the first to rock the pieces of clothing that most girls of today’s time could never live without. Although during her time, she was a risk taker. She dressed completely how she wanted to and frankly, didn’t give a damn about what anyone else thought. Isn’t it so funny how style once so revolutionary during her time, is now, and forever will be, a timeless look that designers will look to for inspiration for all the years to come? Audrey Hepburn is a beautiful style icon that will continue to be etched into fashionista’s minds for decades to come.
Im going to be honest, 70% of the reason why I watch Pretty Little Liars is to see what Aria, or Lucy Hale, is wearing! The adorable actress is always rocking edgy but pretty ensembles, with perfect hair and makeup to match. Lucy also sings, making her a triple threat! I just love the way she manages to look rocker chic with dark colors and studded accessories. She's fashion forward in a personal and very pretty way. On or off screen, this girl has style! xx, Lillian
Denim and chambray are both huge trends for spring 2011! Trendsetters are beginning to pair denim on denim to create effortless, chic daytime looks. What do you think of this denim on denim craze: fabulous or faux pas??
Rachel Bilson is probably one of the most universally admired style icons in today's world. Her effortlessly chic way of dressing appeals to almost everyone, no matter what your style is. She always looks adorable and cute in a very naturally beautiful kind of way. Something that I really admire about her style is that there's always something kind of quirky, different, or unexpected in every one of her looks. Sometimes the unexpected element is subtle, such as funky little shoes or maybe a color combo that most people wouldn't think go together. Other times, the element is more prominent such as a long hemline, or a rumpled shirt. This sets her apart from other young stars in Hollywood that shy away from risk-taking.
I'm obsessed with the fact that Rachel looks like she simply doesn't have to think at all about the outfits that she wears. Her looks are all so effortless looking and just so modern and stylish. This way of dressing is the future of fashion- classic, yet still unique and exciting. I love to take inspiration from her style and mix it into my own wardrobe! She is definitely what I would call freakin' ah-dor-able! Here are some of my all-time favorite looks of hers:
