And girls will be boys...(Spring Trend Alert)

Lately I have been drawn to menswear inspired looks...I think it has something to do with my obsessed with stylish men such as Johnny Weir and Brad Goreski. Or maybe it's just my fashion instincts predicting a trend for Spring 2011..

Either way, I'm becoming obsessed with little oxfords and blazers, and even fedoras and bowties too. Today I even bought a flannel button up and a striped sweater from the guys department. Sometimes the girl's sections simply just doesn't have what you need, and getting boyish pieces from the actual "boys" department is as authentic as it gets.

Paul Smith's Spring 2011 show displayed menswear in a very modern way. I love the way he mixed looser silhouettes, playful colors, or shorter hemlines with the very masculine pieces to give them a more feminine edge. It's really the mixing and matching of this trend that makes it sometimes tricky, because you don't want to literally look like a boy, but rather you want to: "..look like you borrowed your boyfriend's shirt, your boyfriend's jacket, your boyfriend's trousers," as Smith himself said backstage.

I've posted some of my favorite looks from Paul Smith's S/S 2011 collection, some boyish pieces you can buy in stores, and my favorite guys to take inspiration from below.

About me

I started Dressing Up In Daisies about four years ago for the purpose of sharing my opinions, ideas, and personal style on the internet, rather than keeping them bottled up in my head. In my first post on Dressing Up In Daisies, my then thirteen year old self said, “Fashion is about taking risks, and dressing up for yourself, and no one else. Ever since I was two years old, my favorite game to play has been dress up...and it still is. The amazing thing about this game is that you get to play it every single morning, so why not have some fun with it? Wear some massive heels, opt for the leopard coat, throw some daisies in your hair. Whatever your mood is that day.”

This statement is something I continue to stand by, and will for the rest of my existence. I believe it is important to show the world that fashion should celebrate the beauty in risk-taking and oddities, which vastly transcends the limitations of "trends" and other rules often imposed by members of the fashion industry.

I use my blog to connect to the world of fashion that I know I’ll be a part of one day. Feel free to leave comments with feedback, or click the "contact" link above to email me.
