The Question Is: To Drop or Not to Drop? The Story Behind Harem Pants.

If you have paid any attention at all to the Spring 2010 runway shows and trends, I'm sure you are aware of the comeback of the pants formerly known as "Hammer-Time" pants. Drop-crotch, hammer-time, or harem pants- whatever you want to call them, they're back and they are being picked up by fashionistas all around the world.

Honestly, I was a bit unsure about this trend for quite some time. Sometimes they can look really good; but other times they can look really, REALLY, bad. When I saw Adam Lambert dancing around on the stage with these on for Wango Tango, I knew that more and more people were becoming open to them.

Today when I walked into H&M, the first thing that I saw hanging on the rack were, indeed, harem pants. Something inside of me told me to grab them, but another part of me felt a bit embarrassed because I couldn't stop singing MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This" in my head. I ended up grabbing them to try on, and to my surprise they were really great! The amazing thing about H&M's version of the drop-crotch is that it isn't severe at all. It's the right amount where you can give a stylish nod to the trend, but you won't have to worry about looking like you took a dump in your pants!

If you do have an experience like me, and find a fortunate pair of harem pants, I suggest to go for it! They look really fantastic with some chunky heels or sandals, a belt, and a simple top. The mannequin in H&M had them on with a big belt cinching the waist, a white tee, some heels, and a huge-brimmed black hat. It looked fabulous! I just suggest that if you do rock them, keep the rest of your look simple so that it doesn't add to the ridiculousness of the pants. So, what do you think: to drop, or not to drop??

Xoxo,

Audrey

no no no. no, they don't always look terrible - I would say 1% of the time they don't look bad versus 99% of the time them looking stupid and/or gross. but they never look good - they don't flatter the human body and even the smallest drop makes the wearer look like she pooped in her pants...

I like harem pants a lot. They’re super-comfy, I like this trend and I wear these kinda ‘baggy’ pants frequently, similar this one: http://img83114.pixa.us/images/18531113/Latex-Harems-Pants-1

The current fashion trend known as harem pants can be traced back nearly 2,000 years to the traditional garments known as salvars worn in western and southwestern Asia. Harem pants are proving to be a fashion statement to be made by the sleek, sophisticated, and chic. Modern harem pants are a sort of cross between a short skirt and skinny jeans.

About me

I started Dressing Up In Daisies about two years ago for the purpose of unloading all my thoughts, ideas, and obsessions on to internet, rather than keeping them all bottled up in my head. In my first post on DUID ever, my (at the time) thirteen year old self said, “Fashion is about taking risks, and dressing up for yourself, and no one else. Ever since I was two years old, my favorite game to play has been dress up...and it still is. The amazing thing about this game is that you get to play it every single morning, so why not have some fun with it? Wear some massive heels, opt for the leopard coat, throw some daisies in your hair. Whatever your mood is that day.” Ever since I can remember I’ve been fascinated by and obsessed with the world of fashion and all things artistic. I’m not really at all like most kids my age. I spend my days blogging, painting, sketching, taking pictures with old film cameras, and dreaming about my future as a fashion icon strutting around New York City.

Here’s a little bit about me(my description on tumblr): Audrey. 15 years old. Pisces. From San Diegoo. Hippie at heart. Wasting half my time blogging, and the other half at school. Aspiring fashion designer. Full time freak. Soon to be starving artist. ♥ I love: 500 days of summer, fashion, new york city, red nails, good vibes, andy warhol, incense, chanel, men's sweaters, hippies, painting, fur coats, marc jacobs daisy perfume, urban outfitters, the 70's, ziggy stardust, people who dance to the beat of their own drum, rock n' roll music, my canon rebel and my diana f+, steven tyler's sexy ass, the summer of 1969, sublime, my two best friends, woodstock documentaries, lady gaga, saturday mornings, black and white pictures, cold winter days, bike rides in the summertime, combat boots, and tumblr ♥ Dreams: ride a unicorn, go to Parsons for college, create the biggest fashion house in the world, ride a segway, see the aurora borealis, float through space listening to david bowie records, always remain true to myself, live in a shitty apartment and eat top ramen in New York with my best friend Lillian when we turn 18, and not fail my next history test...

I use my blog to connect me to the world of fashion that I know I’ll be a part of one day. And the best part about this is that you guys can be a part of my journey as I chase my dreams of becoming a part of this industry that I feel so passionately about. Feel free to give me feedback in the comment section, hit me up on tumblr, or inbox me because I love hearing from you guys!! xoxo, Audrey
